-The movie The Shawshank Redemption got their period beer containers wrong. The prisoners on the roof drank beer out of bottles in the 1930s, when beer was canned until many years later.

Bear Republic
Pete Brown Tribute Ale
|
A traditional American brown ale made with molasses and brown sugar the Bear Republic Pete Brown Tribute Ale was a tribute to Pete Brown, the sales manager of the Bear Republic Brewing Company. The beer weighs in at 6.3% and pours a rich dark chocolate brown with streaks of red shining through, capped off with a thick pillowy head. The nose is sweet roasted and caramel malts with molasses. The mouth is rich with notes of molasses and brown sugar. Bitter wood tones build as minor berry sourness creeps through barley-roasted mocha-chocolate thicket. Fig-dried sour grape esters counter brown sugared finish, picking up muted caramel, sweet vanilla, and a molasses-like stickiness. You can't go wrong with this one, it's really good!

Harviestoun's Old Engine
Engineer's Reserve Ale
|
The intensely flavored but incredibly smooth Engineer's Reserve is our fabulous Old Engine Oil brewed up to 9% ABV. The aroma is creamy with dark chocolate, sweet underlying molasses, mild fruit complexity and some hints of raisin. Herbal spicy hops are evident. Three hop varieties - grassy Fuggles, spicy East Kent Goldings and fruity Galena, are combined with roast barley providing a slightly burnt, toasted coffee character. Body is medium with and soft, bubbly carbonation. This wonderful beer ends with more roasted malt, burnt caramel, light coffee notes, burnt wood, molasses, bitter coffee and hints of soy sauce. Enjoy a bottle after dinner and take time to savour the earthy, hop fruity flavors of this spectacularly dark, rich beer. If you love porters, you must try this new release from Harviestoun!

Four years in the works, Rayon Vert joins this growing group of beers. Made by Green Flash Brewing Company, one of the pillars of the West Coast hop scene, the hazy, copper-colored brew is among the standouts in the Belgian Style Pale Ale category, with a rich, apricot-and-barnyard flavor and crisp, lingering finish. The brew team levied a strict challenge upon themselves: what would a Green Flash beer taste like if made before World War II, and in Belgium. The result is a powerful, funky brew with a characteristic dry finish from the Brettanomyces yeast strain. An ideal, full-flavored, everyday ale, it can be enjoyed year round. Rayon Vert is cleansing to the palette and pairs well with a diverse range of foods like cheese and charcuterie, dried fruits and even hearty stews.
