Did you know... |

- The body or lightness of whiskey is primarily determined by the size of the grain from which it is made; the larger the grain, the lighter the whiskey. For example, whiskey made from rye, with its small grain size, is bigger or fuller-bodied than is whiskey made from corn, with its large grain size.
-There is a cloud of alcohol in outer space with enough alcohol to make four trillion-trillion drinks. It's free for the taking. . . but it's 10,000 light years away from Earth.
- It is estimated that the federal government takes in 14 times more in taxes on distilled spirits than producers of the products earn making them. That does not include what states and localities additionally take in taxes on the same products.
- Sucking on pennies will have no affect on the results of a breathalyzer test. (Therefore, doing so makes no cents!)
- National Prohibition led to a boom in the cruise industry. By taking what were advertised as "cruises to nowhere," people could legally consume alcohol as soon as the ship entered international waters where they would typically cruise in circles. The cruises quickly became known as "booze cruises."
- During the reign of William III, a garden fountain was once used as a giant punch bowl. The recipe included 560 gallons of brandy, 1200 pounds of sugar, 25,000 lemons, 20 gallons of lime juice, and five pounds of nutmeg. The bartender rowed around in a small boat, filling up guests' punch cups.
- The Manhattan cocktail (whiskey and sweet vermouth) was invented by Winston Churchill's mother.

SNAP Liqueur
|
The makers of Root, have seen fit to extend their product lines. Now we have Snap, another artisinal liqueur inspired by the kitchen delights of our collective youth. Snap is born from a 1600s recipe for ginger snap cookies, taking its ingredients and turning them not into sweet treats but into booze. Snap Organic Liqueur is an 80-proof wonder created from blackstrap molasses, clove, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, rooibos tea, vanilla and pure cane sugar. The result is a complex, highly aromatic liqueur that offers sweet aromas of sugar, vanilla and freshly-baked gingerbread, and a rich, full bodied palate laden with bold notes of baking spice and ginger. Enjoy neat as a digestif, or experiment in bourbon or rye cocktails.

What's different about gin, than say, its more popular counterpart, vodka, is that each gin has its own personality with a distinct aroma, taste profile and finish. Vastly different from the juniper-heavy gins of the past, No. 209 opens with a beautifully aromatic nose of predominately citrus and floral notes with a hint of spiciness. First across the palette are the citrus high notes, with lemon predominate followed by a hint of orange. As it warms in the mouth, delicate floral notes are liberated from the bergamot and coriander. Mid palette, there is a pepper-like warmth from the emerging cardamom and juniper with a wonderful counterpoint from the mint-like components of the cardamom. As the gin passes the palette, the cassia and other warm spice notes become prominent. The cassia in particular will linger in the aftertaste, encouraging another sip. One of the leaders of the "New Gin Movement" and probably the best. This five times distilled gin makes classic gin cocktails better and has helped lead a new cocktail revolution.

Glenmorangie FInealta
SIngle Malt Scotch
|
Glenmorangie Finealta is a painstaking recreation of a recipe dating back to 1903 from the Savoy Hotel. Matured in a combination of American white oak casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks this whisky is unusual for its light touch of peatiness - a reminder of a time when Glenmorangie dried its barley in a peat fired kiln. Aromas of caramelized orange and peaches soaked in liqueur are instantly revealed before giving way to sugared almonds, raisins, lime and a hint of distant woodsmoke. Mandarin, marmalade and hints of cherry brandy combine with the spiciness of nutmeg and ginger before icing sugar, chewy meringue and violet build up slowly on the palate. Full, rounded aromatic smoke with chalky minerals lingers on top of subtle layers of powdery floral scents. This is a limited edition release and will not be around permanently, so don't wait to purchase this supremely elegant scotch
